BC Ostend got off to a great start in the Basketball Champions League downing Telekom Baskets Bonn 66-74. Next Tuesday Ostend will be welcoming the Turkish team Beskitas
BC Ostend started the game off strong with a 12-0 run with Vincent Kesteloot scoring 8 points in a row. Ellias Lasisi (4 points, 4 rebounds) and Tonye Jekiri (20 points, 8 rebounds) chipped in nicely to end the first quarter at12-20. Dusan Djordjevic played a huge part in Ostend’s victory with 17 points and 8 assists. Bonn was able to cut into the lead briefly in the second quarter, but Ostend went into the half leading25-40.
Kesteloot and Djordjevic made sure that Ostend kept the lead in the third quarter (29-48). Julian Gamble (ex- Basic-Fit Brussels) had no answer for Ostend’s strong inside defense as Kesteloot pushed the lead to 20 points. Bonn was able to put together a run at the end of the 3rd quarter(43-56) and came all the way back to 52-56 before Ostend regrouped and put the game away in money time, final score 66-74.
Next Friday Ostend will host Proximus Spirou in the EuorMillions Basketball League while the second game in the Basketball Champions League is a showdown with Turkish powerhouse Besiktas, scheduled on Tuesday 17 Ocotber at the Versluys Dôme.
