The Belgian Pro Basketball League will not host an Orange All Star Game in front of fans this year. The game where the best home-grown players compete against a team of the best foreign players is making way for a new digital concept. The objective of the All Star Game remains the same: to bring the spectacle and entertainment of basketball to the general public via our league’s best players.
For its fourth edition the physical event will be renamed the "Orange All Star Games". It was no option to bring our clubs’ best players together in one place. The League will now visit each club with a camera crew and players will give their all in the three known All Star challenges.
Concretely, almost all players from the ten EuroMillions Basketball League teams will compete against each other per club in a skills challenge, 3pt contest and dunk contest. This is mixed into an exciting 6 to 8 minute show that is broadcast during halftime of one of their TV games that can be seen through our partners Play Sports, VOO Sport and Proximus Sports.
Starting Friday, April 2, one "Orange All Star Games" episode a week will be aired. We will start this Friday with VOO Liège Basket.
Arthur Goethals, President Pro Basketball League: "We had to adapt the concept in light of the constraints imposed by covid-19 without compromising the added value that an All-Star event has to offer in how we want to bring the sport to a wider audience. I thank the clubs for their cooperation in making the project happen. As has been the case throughout the season, this required cooperation and flexibility from all parties.”
Xavier Pichon, CEO of Orange Belgium, reacts: “As a proud sponsor, we’re very happy to see how the Pro Basketball League managed to reinvent itself by developing a whole new concept for the Orange All-Star Game, while they keep highlighting the local talents and proposing an entertaining alternative to all the fans.”
