Euromillions Basketball Cup: Antwerp, Limburg and Brussels take the lead
Saturday 22nd January 2022

For their first outing since Luc Smout took over from Christophe Beghin as coach, Telenet Giants Antwerp hit hard. On the court of Kangoeroes Basket Mechelen, Antwerp gave their opponents no chance by starting the game with a 2-19 score. The gap continued to grow throughout the game and at halftime the scoreboard showed 37-67. With great offensive efficiency, the Giants set the final score at 77-117. The qualification for the semi-finals is therefore almost assured. In the Antwerp ranks, six players finished with at least 10 points. Markel Brown was the top scorer with 27 points.

This time, Phoenix Brussels Basketball managed to surprise Okapi Aalst, against whom they had lost in the league last weekend. Despite their victory (79-70), Brussels can have some regrets because they were 18 points ahead for a while. Anthony Chada and Ivan Karacic, the two new recruits of Brussels, were in the game. Dominant on the rebound and on the collective plan, the team of the capital had a 6 points lead at halftime (39-33). After a few minutes of madness at the beginning of the 4th quarter, Brussels took off at 73-55. But Aalst managed to limit the damage before the return game on their court this Sunday. For Brussels, Terry Deroover and Pape Badji finished with 12 points. For Aalst, Paulius Valinskas scored 22 points.

Hubo Limburg United managed to create an upset on the road at Stella Artois Leuven Bears. For three quarters, the game was very close (53-53). But the visitors managed to make the difference in the last ten minutes of the game by winning the last quarter with a score of 14-33. With an advantage of 19 points (67-86), Limburg United has taken a nice option before hosting Leuven Bears this Sunday.
